Description
The course describes the physiological and clinical aspect of thyroid gland. This course covers the thyroid gland and the hormone they secret. It covers in detail the anatomy, relations of thyroid gland. The course addresses the regulation of thyroid hormones (Tri-iodothyronine or T3 and Tetra-iodothyronine or T4) in relation to hypothalamus hormone Thyrotropin Releasing Hormone (TRH) and anterior pituitary hormone that is thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). The course highlights the factors stimulate the secretion of thyroid hormones and covers the role of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). The course covers the histological features and the steps of synthesis of thyroid hormones. A detailed discussion of the roles played by thyroid hormones in various body organs is provided. The course covers the conditions caused by either an overactive or underactive thyroid and its clinical manifestation. This course covers the following topics:Topic 1: Thyroid gland anatomy and its clinical implicationsTopic 2: Thyroid Gland histology and synthesis of thyroid hormonesTopic 3: Regulation of thyroid hormonesTopic 4: Receptors and actions of thyroid hormonesTopic 5: Abnormalities of thyroid gland: HyperthyroidismTopic 6: Abnormalities of thyroid gland: HypothyroidismThe course also includes 10 multiple-choice questions (MCQ) with in-depth graphics and explanations. At the end of the course, you will be able to explain the anatomical, physiological and pathological aspects of thyroid gland.
