It's hard to believe The Who did not officially release this recording. In spite of all the technical glitches and other problems which the 1973 Quadrophenia tour is known for, The Who were in fine form on this particular night in Philadelphia. The whole band is amazing. In particular, John Entwistle's bass and Keith Moon's drumming are spot on brilliant. Considering this is an unofficial release, I would rate the sound quality as above average. This is The Who at their absolute best. Highly recommended for Wholigans.
any who die hard collector of who shows will know this gig very well, this was broadcast from the old spectrum in philadelphia pa on way back on 12/4/73, this went out live on rock radio all over the us on a great radio show from the 1970s and 1980s that was called THE KING BISCUIT FLOWER HOUR ( i got into that show in the late 70s) and it always broadcast on sunday nights, becouse of this once great live rock show i got into a lot of british bands at a very young age as i was so young in the late 70s, i got into bands like URIAH HEEP, WISHBONE ASH, UFO, JUDAS PRIEST, RAINBOW,SAXON and god so so many others as they did not just do shows by the huge superstars like THE WHO, LED ZEPPELIN,KISS, STONES, KINKS PINK FLOYD etc etc etc, also a good part of this 2 c d boot came out on vinyl in 1974 and had many repressings from 1974 through the early 1980s called TALES OF THE WHO with the cartoon artwork on the sleeve, real who nuts like me will know what im talking about its a 2 lp set and there are still many on e bay and discogs to this day, anyway this show brings back great memories of my youth and im a huge quad era who fan as i am a huge fan of almost anything THE WHO that was going on between the bridging of the gap in 1963/64 all the way up to its hard in 1982, anyway this night was spot on for the who considering i do have some other boots from this tour and to this day pete & roger always say what a disaster the original quad tour was on both sides of the pond during november and december of 1973 BUT NOT ON THIS NIGHT!!! as the young today say today in 2020 THE WHO NAILED IT on this night so this is a perfect quad 73 tour show, i wish i had more of the uk/and the few european quad shows that took place on boot from this tour but there are not many, again the who where right on spot this night and could not have performed more LIVE, RAW & PERFECT for my who ears, if you are a fan of live who shows GET THIS!!! even if you have it on vinyl or the tales of the who boot i mentioned becouse when it comes to boots cd boots do sound much better then vinyl ones, i have a good boot of the 1996 quad show that i was at in nyc at madison sq garden ( wich took place the same night as that TWA flight that was bound for paris france crashed off long island here) in july 1996 as after the hyde park london quad show the who would bring it here w/ phil danials and all for a 5 night run in nyc and i saw 3 of those gigs but when i listen to the few boots i have from the original tour from the end of 1973 i honestly prefer these better becouse they are MORE RAW, LOUD & PETES GUITAR WAS A BIT DISTORTED AT TIMES back in 1973, 23 years later in 1996 it all went to perfect and had a much different sound as more musicians took place with those performances wich made it very modern sounding by 1996 standards, THIS 1973 gig was ROGER/PETE,JOHN & KEITH blowing the roof off the spectrum!!! this is how i like hearing my who shows LOUD, ROUGH, DISTORTED & if keith or pete where to dunk sometimes SO WHAT?? that was what made that era so special. anyway i feel i wrote a bit of a long boring review here so sorry about that but as i got typing here so many great memories of my who youth came back and of coarse remembering being young in the late 70s, on sunday nights hiding up in my room surrounded by all my records & posters ( as per then) and supposed to be sleeping early becouse it was a school night so i had to keep the volume down but i was always up till about midnight listening to the great KING BISCUIT FLOUR HOUR SHOW!!! regardless of the boots back then on the market of this gig about every 6 to 8 weeks back then and well into the 80s the biscuit would repeat this great live show!!!
