Description:
Dear Reader,
Not long ago, I read an article about World War II and a partnership between the U.S. Military and the U.S. National Park Service. The end result was the establishment of rest and recuperation (R&R) camps within American national parks for returning veterans. There was even a Naval hospital inside Yellowstone. Who knew?
So my mind wandered. . .
Then I visited Big Sky, Montana and the pieces came together. A place once magic and healing would one day be again. That's where my story began and words flowed onto the page.
What happened next was a search into the meaning of heroes, a quest to find self and a deeper gratitude for all that life has to give. Two sets of characters came to life: one set in the 1940's and one in present day. A Marine and an amazing woman in each.
For me, this story (and hopefully many more books IF you end up liking them) was about digging into the shared sacrifice of heroes and their loved ones. What does it mean to be a hero? Who do we go to for help? What does a worthwhile life look like? And what if hero roles are reversed?
I hope I've done each of these characters justice and I hope you see part of yourself or a loved one in each of them. If not, maybe you'll just enjoy a good story that doesn't mind taking a splash in the pool of hope and wonder. Because that's what I did while writing, and that's what I plan to do going forward.
Here's to the hero in each one of us, and here's to you and the wonders you have yet to spread, my friend.
Let me know what you think,
C. G. Cooper
