Mute your mic in any app. A macOS menu bar app that allows you to quickly mute and unmute yourself using a customisable keyboard shortcut.
Ever been in a video call and needed to turn off your microphone—like, immediately—but couldn't find the mute button quickly enough?
Mic Drop is a menubar app that lets you quickly mute (and then unmute!) your microphone with a keyboard shortcut or a menubar control. It works with every meeting app out there—from Zoom to Slack, FaceTime to Houseparty.
A handy menubar icon shows you at a glance if you're muted or not, so you're never left wondering: 'can everyone hear me?' And it lets you (un)mute yourself even if you don't have your meeting app open.
Mic Drop is designed for remote workers, user researchers, teachers, and anyone spending a lot of time in meetings, video calls, or voice calls.
--------
### Universal ###
Whether you're taking notes in another app, reviewing a prototype in Figma, or just getting distracted and browsing for shoes, sometimes you need to mute your microphone even when you don't have your meeting app in focus. Mic Drop's global keyboard shortcut allows you to quickly toggle your mic without having to switch between apps or browser tabs.
### Customizable ###
Sure, most video apps have their own keyboard shortcuts, but *they're all different*. Instead of trying to remember different shortcuts for each app, Mic Drop allows you to create a custom control that makes sense to you. You can even use a double-tap if you're so inclined!
### Works with every app ###
Because Mic Drop mutes your audio at the system level, it works with any app you can imagine. We've tested with
* Zoom
* Slack
* Google Meet
* Skype
* Microsoft Teams
* Discord
* FaceTime
* Vidyo
* Houseparty
* Cisco Webex
And many more—it *just works*. No matter your meeting app—Mic Drop's got you covered.
### Confidence-inspiring ###
'Can you hear me now?' Mic Drop clearly displays your microphone status in your menu bar, so you always know if your mic is on.
### Keeps you muted, no matter what ###
Some apps try to unmute you or control your microphone volume. Some apps let other participants unmute you. Mic Drop keeps *you* muted until *you* turn your mic back on, so you can be super-sure you don't accidentally start transmitting something you don't want everyone to hear.
### Push-to-talk ###
Mic Drop lets you toggle your microphone on and off, but it also lets you recreate Zoom's 'hold to talk' feature—in every app you use for meetings. Make it so your microphone is only on when you're holding down your keyboard shortcut—even if your meeting app isn't in focus.
### Stays muted if you switch devices ###
Need to switch to your AirPods halfway through a call? Not to worry—Mic Drop automatically mutes (or unmutes) any new devices you connect, even after your call starts. You won't have to worry that you'll suddenly start transmitting audio when you plug in a new device.
### Reliable and tested ###
As remote workers ourselves, we spend a *lot* of time in video calls. We built Mic Drop because we couldn't find another app that did everything we wanted—and didn't crash or send our computers into jet-plane mode. Mic Drop is built to modern macOS practises and it uses very few system resources. We test it ourselves almost every single day, so if there are any bugs, we'll probably find them (and fix them!) before you do.
